FUN

"I hope you can accept Nature as She is -- absurd. I'm going to have fun telling you about this absurdity, because I find it delightful."
-- Richard Feynman, Nobel Prizewinning physicist

I'm going to put here some of the weirdest, wildest and most fascinating things I've come across in my years as a scientist and science fiction writer. And some funny stories, too. Because I've only recently started this website, I'll start with just a few items.

WEIRD FACT: DO SPACE TOURISTS PAY EXTRA FOR THE FUNGI?
Solar radiation created about 250 species of mutant bacteria and fungi on the now-defunct Russian space station Mir, eating its insulation.
-- physicist Robert L. Park, the American Physical Society

Ever wonder what scientists do for fun? No? Well, I'll tell you anyway. They read cartoons like these:
DILBERT
SID HARRIS

In every lab in America, you'll find cartoons from these artists stuck on walls, bulletin boards and mysterious, humming pieces of apparatus. You'll also find Gary Larson's wonderful Far Side cartoons, but his lawyers have pulled most of them off the web. You'll have to find them in the bookstore.
